What Happened?

Shares of fertility benefits company Progyny (NASDAQ:PGNY) fell 4.5% in the afternoon session after the company issued a weak forecast, overshadowing second-quarter results that beat expectations.

The company reported revenue of $350.5 million, up 5.3% year over year, and an adjusted profit of $0.55 per share, both of which topped analysts' estimates. However, investors focused on the company's disappointing guidance for the upcoming quarter, with a revenue projection of $340 million coming in 3% below consensus.

Adding to the concerns, Progyny also lowered its full-year revenue guidance to $1.37 billion from $1.39 billion and trimmed its full-year EBITDA forecast. This weaker outlook for future growth appeared to be the primary driver behind the significant sell-off.

What Is The Market Telling Us

Progyny’s shares are somewhat volatile and have had 12 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today’s move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business.

The previous big move we wrote about was 25 days ago when the stock gained 3.5% on the news that KeyBanc raised its price target on the stock to $35 from $30, citing expectations of a strong earnings report and increased future guidance. The investment bank, which maintained its "Overweight" rating, pointed to an acceleration in transactions and spending during June as the basis for its positive outlook. KeyBanc's action followed other recent bullish calls from Wall Street. Truist Securities also raised its price target, and Canaccord Genuity upgraded Progyny's stock rating to "Buy" from "Hold," signaling growing analyst confidence in the company's performance.

Progyny is up 10.1% since the beginning of the year, but at $28.36 per share, it is still trading 12.4% below its 52-week high of $32.36 from July 2026. Despite the year-to-date gain, investors who bought $1,000 worth of Progyny’s shares 5 years ago would now be looking at only $587.95.
