Mercy Ships, the global nonprofit organization delivering healthcare to low- and middle-income countries via hospital ships, announces that the award-winning reality series The Mercy Ships premiered on June 18, exclusively on Angel.com and the Angel apps. The series chronicles the mission of the world's largest civilian-run hospital ships as they deliver free surgeries and healthcare services to coastal African communities. The first three episodes will stream free of charge and feature volunteers from throughout the United States.

Mercy Ships proudly joined “Give Miami Day” on November 16, 2023, to amplify the spirit of philanthropy exhibited by the incredible South Florida community. Representatives from the hospital ship charity shared inspirational stories of patients and caregivers at the first annual signature event in the U.S., “A Transformational Journey.” They also expressed gratitude for the generous Miami business executives and philanthropists who came together to support and celebrate in the mission of hope and healing. This unique event held at The Temple House, one of the most iconic Art Deco properties in the U.S., transported attendees from Miami Beach to the Global Mercy®, which is currently in field service in Sierra Leone, Africa, through an immersive visual experience.

Mercy Ships:

In response to an invitation from H.E. President Julius Maada Bio, Freetown has welcomed a Mercy Ships’ hospital ship, marking the sixth instance of the collaboration between Mercy Ships and the government of Sierra Leone. This time it is the Global Mercy® the world’s largest non-governmental hospital ship, which has docked at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay.

Four-year-old Amadou was the first patient to receive a surgery on board the world’s largest civilian hospital ship, the Global Mercy® today. Born with one windswept leg and one bowed leg, even sitting for a meal was painful for him. Both are conditions which can be corrected by early intervention.

The newest Mercy Ship, the Global Mercy® arrived in Dakar, Senegal on February 14, 2023. While the ship hosted surgical training in Senegal in 2022, this year marks the first time that specialized surgeries will take place on this newly built hospital ship. This field service will include partnership with ministries of health in both Senegal and The Gambia, serving both countries through the port of Dakar.

Mercy Ships, the global, faith-based healthcare charity that through a fleet of first-class hospital ships provides free surgeries and healthcare services to the world’s most disadvantaged peoples, today announced that Gary Brown was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mercy Ships International effective January 1, 2023.

A Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Don Stephens, founder of Mercy Ships this past weekend at the opening event of the GE7 Africa Visionary Leaders Annual Summit, held in Washington DC. This award was presented by H.E. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation of Government of Egypt. Earlier this year the government of Egypt had provided free passage through the Suez Canal for the newest Mercy Ship, the Global Mercy® on the vessel’s maiden voyage.

During an audience with His Excellency Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, the government of Sierra Leone and Mercy Ships extended their existing protocol agreements for their newest hospital ship, the Global Mercy® to visit Sierra Leone.

In the midst of celebrations around the arrival of the Global Mercy™ to Senegal, training has already begun by the crew of the world’s largest civilian hospital ship, currently docked in Dakar for its first African mission.

H.E. President of Senegal Macky Sall has inaugurated the world’s largest purpose-built hospital ship and committed to accelerate access to surgical, obstetric and anesthetic care for the nations of Africa. Ceremonies commemorated more than 30 years of service in Africa. International humanitarian organization Mercy Ships and its partners in Africa used the opportunity to come together in an unprecedented and strategic effort to improve access to safer surgery across the continent through a series of milestone events.

On February 26, the Global Mercy, the new purpose-built hospital ship built by Mercy Ships, docked in the Port of Rotterdam. Festivities launched the beginning of a two-week visit that offers the public a unique opportunity to come on board.

The President of the Republic of Senegal, His Excellency Mr. Macky Sall is pleased to announce that the Africa Mercy has returned as promised to continue the surgical operations and training that were interrupted in March 2020 by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The ship's presence is expected to last until November 2022.

Mercy Ships is pleased to announce a second $50 million gift from Harry and Linda Fath of Cincinnati, Ohio. These two gifts are the largest donations in Mercy Ships history.

As the International Day of Charity (Sunday, September 5, 2021) draws closer, Mercy Ships has announced that the Global Mercy completed its journey through the Suez Canal and the ship is headed for a short courtesy visit in Malta. The Global Mercy, the newest hospital ship of Mercy Ships, is in the last leg of the journey to the Port of Antwerp, where it will be further equipped and crewed. The ship is scheduled to arrive mid-September in Belgium and remain until early next year.

Global health charity, Mercy Ships, reports that after a completion and acceptance ceremony on June 16, followed by a handover celebration at the Tianjin Xingang shipyard this past week, the world's largest civilian hospital ship, Global Mercy™, has successfully been delivered and the charity has taken possession of their brand new vessel.

Mercy Ships, the global healthcare charity that provides free medical services to the world’s least advantaged peoples through a fleet of first-class hospital ships, announced today that it has appointed Gert van de Weerdhof as Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to replace current Mercy Ships CEO, Tom Stogner, who retires June 25, 2021.

Mercy Ships announced this week that the Global Mercy™ has now completed deep water sea trials, one of the final milestones in the countdown towards the hospital ship’s delivery, equipping, maiden voyage and launch into service to sub-Saharan Africa in 2022.
