Amtrak and the partner states of Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois are reporting strong customer demand for the Borealis trains between St. Paul and Chicago: more than 500,000 guests have ridden the daily train since service began May of 2024.

Beginning Sept. 30, customers can experience the new Airo trainsets on the Amtrak Cascades as Amtrak introduces its newest fleet into passenger service. Following recent announcements of expanded passenger rail service, including a second daily Pennsylvanian train between Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Philadelphia and New York, Amtrak today announced the creation of a new Board-level System Expansion Committee focused on growing passenger rail service across the country.

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has awarded Amtrak two grants in support of the development of a new Midwest Maintenance Facility and to make vital bridge and viaduct repairs.
