Sprayman is directing attention to its X-Climate Pro Window & Door Spray Foam, a low-expansion sealant formulated for exterior and temperature-variable installations, as contractors and homeowners prepare for the fall and winter heating season. The product carries a stated application range of 32 degrees Fahrenheit to 112 degrees Fahrenheit (0 degrees Celsius to 44 degrees Celsius), a span that covers much of the cold-weather work that continues after indoor conditions become difficult to maintain.

The U.S. Department of Energy states that heat gain and heat loss through windows account for 25% to 30% of residential heating and cooling energy use, according to energy.gov. That figure covers windows overall, including glass and frames. The gap around a window or door frame represents one controllable part of that energy loss, and proper sealing of the rough opening addresses it during installation.

Low expansion matters for this type of work. According to Sprayman's product literature, standard expanding foams can apply pressure during curing that may warp window frames or misalign door jambs. Low-expansion foam is formulated to expand evenly without stressing frames, tracks, or hardware. The foam is compatible with vinyl, aluminum, and wood frames, citing Sprayman's product information.

The company offers two distinct window and door formulations. The standard Window & Door Low Expansion Gun Foam is intended for controlled indoor installations, while X-Climate Pro is intended for exterior and temperature-variable environments where conditions are less predictable.

According to Sprayman's technical data sheet, the single-component, moisture-curing polyurethane foam has a cured temperature resistance of minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit to 194 degrees Fahrenheit and a density of 1.2 plus or minus 0.2 pounds per cubic foot under ASTM D1622. The gun-applied foam has a skin time of 6 plus or minus 2 minutes under ASTM C1620, a cut time of 20 to 45 minutes, and full cure within 24 hours. The product is supplied in a 24-ounce can, carries a 12-month shelf life, and is free of CFCs and HCFCs.

Sprayman reports several practical application points for cold-weather conditions. Surfaces should be clean and dry, and lightly misting the surface with water aids adhesion and curing. The optimal can temperature is 68 degrees Fahrenheit, so cans stored in cold vehicles should be brought to room temperature before use. Vertical gaps are filled from bottom to top without overfilling, and cured foam on exterior applications should be painted or covered to protect it from UV exposure.

"Window and door replacement does not stop when temperatures drop, and much of this work moves outdoors into conditions that standard interior foams were never designed for," a representative of Sprayman said.

"Sprayman offers two distinct window and door formulations rather than one general-purpose product because indoor and exterior installations present different curing conditions," the representative noted. "Matching the foam to the environment produces a more consistent seal."

Additional product details are available in the technical data sheet, and updates are posted to Sprayman on Instagram. More information is available on Sprayman's website.
