-- PROSTAID Calgary has announced its August monthly support group meeting, featuring Registered Clinical Counsellor Daniel Munns, MC, RCC, for a discussion on the mental health challenges associated with prostate cancer. The free session aims to help patients, survivors, caregivers, and family members better understand and navigate the emotional and psychological impact of diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 7:30 PM at the CKE Community Centre, 1015 73 Ave SW, Calgary, with a virtual attendance option available via Zoom.

More information about the upcoming session is available at https://prostaid.org/meetings/.

According to the Canadian Cancer Society, approximately one in eight Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime. While treatment advances have improved survival, many continue to experience anxiety, depression, and uncertainty during and after treatment. The Canadian Cancer Society also reports that nearly half of Canadians diagnosed with cancer experience significant emotional distress, while Statistics Canada estimates that 5.7 million Canadians provide unpaid care, underscoring the importance of mental health support for both patients and caregivers.

The upcoming session will explore these challenges with guidance from Daniel Munns, MC, RCC, a Registered Clinical Counsellor serving the Vancouver region. Munns works with the Prostate Cancer Supportive Care Program, helping men navigate the emotional and psychological effects of prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment. With more than two decades of experience, he integrates counselling, mindfulness, yoga, and somatic therapies to promote emotional well-being through a person-centred approach.

During the August meeting, attendees will learn about common mental health concerns associated with prostate cancer and practical approaches that may help build resilience, improve communication, and support emotional well-being throughout treatment and recovery. The session also provides an opportunity to connect with others who share similar experiences within a supportive community environment.
