-- A Mission for Michael (AMFM) has announced an expansion to its residential mental health services in Lake Forest, CA, and the surrounding areas. The services at this location are provided exclusively to men struggling with mental disorders impacting their quality of life and daily functioning, including mood and personality disorders, depression, anxiety, trauma, and more.

According to data from the National Institute of Mental Health, men account for nearly 75% of all suicides in the U.S., yet they are less likely to seek help for mental health issues than women; in one survey conducted by the American Psychological Association, only 35% of men reported they would consider treatment compared to 58% of women. Researchers attribute this reluctance to societal expectations of masculinity, lack of awareness about available resources, and the stigma surrounding mental health.
Untreated mental disorders can impact relationships, work life, and daily functioning. To help men overcome these challenges, AMFM offers mental health treatment programs to men and male-identifying individuals in a compassionate and non-judgmental environment. These residential programs are developed around the individual’s needs and can treat conditions like PTSD, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, and psychotic disorders through evidence-based modalities that include, but are not limited to, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and trauma-focused therapies.
In addition to clinical treatments, AMFM will hold weekly sessions for yoga, physical fitness, and experiential therapies like breathwork, somatic therapy, and equine therapy, all of which can potentially improve mental and physical well-being holistically. Patients will also be encouraged to take part in experiential outings to museums, parks, or beaches, along with activities such as mini-golf and group movie nights, which are intended for leisure and to foster connection between peers.
As AMFM’s treatment program is an inpatient program, patients will remain at the facility 24/7, where they will have access to amenities, outdoor spaces, and private or semi-private rooms. Meals will be provided by the treatment center’s personal chefs and can be altered to accommodate dietary restrictions; snacks and drinks will also be available throughout the day.
