Through digital and physical events, the Beat Dao collective seeks to inspire a worldwide music community through collaboration, skills sharing, and web3 tech education. The team’s music producers and recording artists offer a diverse global vibe that spans the genres of hip hop, dance, edm afrobeat and pop.
“It’s tough for artists to earn a living these days. The landscape is forever changed,” states Jon Blok, council member of Beat Dao. “From selling NFTS, streaming music, metaverse performances, patronage support, to selling beats or stems — musicians have so many options and outlets that it can be overwhelming. The Beat Dao collective is a worldwide community that is problem solving together.”
The Beat Dao collective has several accomplished and upcoming producers who have found a way to collaborate and organize themselves on the NEAR protocol as a DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization). Members of a DAO can vote on initiatives for the entity and smart contracts are also implemented for the DAO. The code governing the DAO's operations is publicly disclosed for full transparency.
Beat Dao’s debut compilation album “Beat Dao — Volume 01” features 15 instrumental tracks of hip hop, afrobeat, house and alternative music from producers residing in Lagos, Nigeria / Jakarta, Indonesia / Poland, Gdynia / Ibadan, Nigeria and New York, United States. The album was funded by the Creatives DAO, whose purpose is to help support artist Guilds within the NEAR ecosystem. Through education, sustainable web3 resources, and financial support, the Creatives DAO seeks to empower artist collectives around the world.
