New York nonprofit’s co-founder Camille Tagle expands role with an eye toward growth
FABSCRAP, the nonprofit dedicated to ending textile waste, has announced the promotion of co-founder Camille Tagle to Executive Director. Tagle brings deep historical knowledge to the role, having previously served as FABSCRAP's Creative Director since its founding in 2016. Over the course of her tenure, FABSCRAP has kept nearly 2.5 million pounds of fabric out of the waste stream, mitigating 17,887 tons of CO2 emissions, supported by over 11,300 individuals who have rallied around FABSCRAP’s mission and volunteered their time to sort fabric for reuse and recycling.
FABSCRAP is currently celebrating 10 years of keeping commercial textile waste out of landfills and enters its next decade with a growth-focused mission and sharper view of what’s at stake.
FABSCRAP is inviting all climate champions, partners, and supporters to join its anniversary celebration during New York Climate Week on the evening of September 24, putting textile waste at the center of the week’s solution-driven conversations.
“Choosing to celebrate our anniversary during New York Climate Week is intentional,” said Camille Tagle, Co-Founder and Executive Director of FABSCRAP. “We’ve spent the last decade proving that climate action doesn’t have to be abstract or far removed from the people it affects. It can mean mobilizing an industry and activating a local community in a real, tangible way. Circularity requires more than innovation. It requires infrastructure, people, and the commitment to actually do the work.”
Under Tagle’s leadership the organization has strengthened its textile recycling service model, and improved operational flow while also investing in its vibrant volunteer community. Over the past year, FABSCRAP has welcomed 96 corporate and community groups to its warehouse in Brooklyn. In addition, new pop-up partnerships and a wholesale reuse program that includes five wholesale partners beyond New York City, are making more recovered materials accessible to more people.
The 10th anniversary party will also serve as a vital fundraiser for the nonprofit, mobilizing industry partners and dedicated community members in support of FABSCRAP’s ability to expand waste-diversion capacity, strengthen its team and operations, and continue developing innovative solutions for the growing textile waste stream.
