With Socotra Skills, insurers can use their preferred AI agent to configure products and carry out insurance workflows in Socotra with unprecedented speed, accuracy, and efficiency.
Socotra today announced the free public release of Socotra Skills, a set of reusable instructions and workflows that help AI agents interact more accurately and efficiently with Socotra. Insurers can now build products and execute insurance workflows in Socotra using their preferred AI agent, including Claude Code, Claude Cowork, Codex, Cursor, and more.
Introduced by Anthropic as an open standard, agent skills give AI useful, repeatable expertise. Atlassian, Databricks, GitHub, Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Stripe have already published skills, and Socotra is the first insurance core to release skills for its platform.
Why It Matters for Insurers
A general-purpose AI agent may know how to write code, but it does not automatically know how Socotra works. It may not know Socotra’s APIs, MCP Server, configuration model, platform workflows, or the right sequence of steps for building and maintaining insurance products.
Socotra’s documentation provides that foundational context. Socotra Skills build on it by giving AI agents reusable instructions, examples, and workflows for working with Socotra. This leads to better accuracy, more consistent results, less repeated prompting, and a faster path for new users to get started.
With Socotra Skills, insurers can use AI agents to carry out insurance workflows in a sandboxed Socotra environment, such as:
- Build any insurance product or package for any geography or distribution channel
- Create, price, issue, and underwrite quotes
- Create and manage policy transactions
- Manage underwriters and policy servicing tasks
- Configure billing, reporting, and even integrations
- Leverage any of Socotra’s APIs and workflows
Because skills are open source and customizable, insurers can adapt them to their own tools, data, and workflows. For example, insurers can:
- Enforce custom product standards and requirements
- Reconcile configuration with filings and other systems
- Enrich quotes with data from external sources
- Analyze the impact of product changes
- Test underwriting rules
- Run routine rate changes
- Model what-if pricing across a portfolio
- Ingest bureau content
- Build scaffolding for front ends
Built on Socotra’s Uniquely Open Foundation
Socotra Skills build on Socotra’s modern technology, which is open, flexible, and easy to work with. Its data model, product inheritance, open APIs, token-efficient documentation, and MCP Server allow insurers to deploy products across any line of business, geography, and distribution channel—and iterate them with speed and cost-effectiveness.
Socotra Skills is only the latest addition to the family of Socotra AI products. Socotra MCP Server gives AI applications a structured and auditable way to connect to Socotra. Socotra Assistant brings AI into underwriting workflows. Agentic Configuration helps teams build and validate insurance products. Socotra Skills bring these capabilities into reusable workflows that insurers can run through the AI tools they already use.
“Insurers need a practical and safe way to use AI for their core systems,” said Dan Woods, Founder and CEO of Socotra. “Socotra Skills allow insurers to use the AI tools they already prefer to work directly with their insurance core. This means insurers can test ideas faster, apply changes more consistently, and spend less time translating business decisions into technical steps.”
Availability
Socotra Skills are available via GitHub. Sandbox access to Socotra Insurance Suite can be requested by emailing sandbox@socotra.com. See full documentation here.
Insurers wishing to try Socotra’s AI capabilities can also apply for a seat at the Socotra Agentic Configuration Workshop at ITC Vegas. In this exclusive and hands-on session, attendees will build, deploy, and quote a working insurance product. All attendees receive sandbox access for 30 days following the event.
