Finalist honor continues a year of momentum for Pyure, from peer-reviewed clinical validation to independent industry coverage in long-term care
The Pyure Company, a leader in advanced hydroxyl-based air and surface purification technology, has been named a finalist in the 2026 McKnight’s Excellence in Technology Awards. The honor is the latest in a year of building recognition for Pyure in senior living and long-term care, following peer-reviewed clinical validation and independent industry coverage.
Pyure’s finalist entry, “Clearing the air: A controlled study of continuous air purification in long-term care,” was selected in the Resident/Patient Monitoring and Safety category.
Earlier this year, a peer-reviewed study published in JAMDA, The Journal of the American Medical Directors Association, evaluated Pyure’s continuous hydroxyl radical air disinfection technology in a long-term care environment. The study found a 48% reduction in suspected respiratory and viral infection symptoms over a 12-month period as compared to a control group (read the complete study here), providing meaningful real-world evidence for an approach designed to work continuously in occupied spaces without changes to staffing, workflows or resident routines.
Since publication, the findings have drawn attention within the long-term care community, including coverage by McKnight’s Long-Term Care News. The finalist recognition reinforces that trajectory as operators increasingly weigh the role of continuous environmental protection in senior care.
“Being named a McKnight’s finalist with our first publication in this space is materially meaningful to us because it further validates and recognizes a differentiated outcome: significant reduction in spread of infections in an independent clinical trial,” said Mahyar Khosravi, CEO of The Pyure Company. “We are honored to have been named a finalist by a leader in this industry. Senior living operators are looking for practical ways to strengthen infection prevention without adding staff, steps or complexity. Peer-reviewed evidence and recognition like this give them the confidence to make continuous air and surface purification an integral part of their risk mitigation and cost reduction strategy.”
Building on Clinical Evidence
Long-term care communities face persistent challenges from respiratory infections, particularly among older and medically vulnerable residents. At the same time, care teams must balance infection prevention with staffing, operational and financial demands.
Pyure’s technology is designed to complement existing infection-prevention practices by continuously treating the air and exposed surfaces while spaces remain occupied. Rather than adding another point-in-time intervention or process for staff to manage, the technology is intended to operate in the background as part of the broader indoor environment while reducing the intensity and costs associated with sanitization.
The JAMDA study provided important clinical evidence supporting that approach and helped bring the conversation to a broader group of operators, clinical leaders and decision-makers across senior living and long-term care.
Momentum in Senior Living
Pyure has spent more than two decades developing hydroxyl-based technologies for air and surface purification across healthcare, commercial and industrial environments. In senior living and long-term care, the company is increasingly focused on helping operators address infection risk without adding unnecessary complexity to day-to-day operations.
The combination of peer-reviewed clinical evidence, independent industry coverage and now finalist recognition marks Pyure’s progression from an emerging option to a clinically validated, industry-recognized approach to healthier indoor environments in senior care.
Now in its 16th year, the McKnight’s Excellence in Technology Awards recognize technology innovations serving senior living, skilled nursing and home care. Gold, Silver and Bronze awards are presented in each category as warranted.
Winners of the 2026 awards will be announced September 16 during the virtual McKnight’s Tech Awards + Summit.
