Deployed with Energy Solutions at a natural gas microgrid in North Dakota's Bakken Basin, ODIE has caught problems across multiple generator systems, from a hidden relay fault to a failed emissions sensor.
MNVR, developers of prescriptive intelligence for industrial systems, today launched ODIE, an AI advisor for microgrids that helps operators find and fix developing equipment problems before they cause unplanned downtime. ODIE arrives with results already in hand. At the Muskrat site in the Bakken Basin, a 12-megawatt gas-powered microgrid maintained by Energy Solutions, a partner of MNVR and a turnkey Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) power generation contractor, ODIE is already catching problems that traditional monitoring wasn't built to see.
ODIE, short for Optimization and Data Intelligence Engine, launches into a power market under strain. After nearly two decades of flat demand, U.S. electricity use is at record highs, and utility forecasts show it climbing through the end of the decade, driven largely by data centers and manufacturing. With grid connections often years away, more of that demand is landing on microgrids and on-site generation, which frequently run remote with lean crews and scarce technicians. At those sites, a failure caught late means costlier repairs, lost revenue and customers stranded without critical power.
ODIE is built to keep those sites running. Its proactive reasoning agents monitor thousands of site signals continuously, flag emerging equipment issues and efficiency opportunities, and rank each one by severity and ROI, with the data and reasoning behind every finding. Its conversational interface lets operators question live and historical site data in plain language for deep dives and root-cause investigations.
ODIE also captures the hard-won knowledge of operators. Every question they ask and every diagnosis they confirm is recorded, so ODIE learns how a site's most experienced people think and brings that judgment to every operator, on every shift. With trained technicians in short supply, that expertise stays with the site instead of retiring with the people who built it.
"The country needs power faster than the grid can deliver it, and microgrids are filling that gap," said Doug Kenik, President and CEO of MNVR. "But a microgrid is only a viable solution if it stays online and runs as efficiently as possible. ODIE gives operators the ability to catch problems while they're still maintenance items and identify areas to gain efficiency, so the power these sites deliver is power that owners and end customers can count on at the lowest cost."
"We weren't going to launch on promises," Kenik said. "Before announcing ODIE, we put it to work on a live site for more than six months, alongside an operations team that knows these machines as well as anyone. It found real problems in real equipment, and it found them in time to make a difference."
Some findings came from ODIE's agents working in the background, including a degrading ignition transformer and a failed emissions sensor that nothing on site could see. Others came from operators questioning ODIE directly, like the session that traced a generator fault to a failed $100 relay contact, rather than the $18,000 controller that operators initially suspected.
"Phenomenal is the word I'd use to describe our experience with ODIE," said Casey Brauchie, Associate Vice President of Engineering, Procurement and Construction at Energy Solutions. "The feedback from our commissioning and service team has been extremely positive across the board."
Muskrat is just the starting point. Energy Solutions is building new generation capacity across several sites and plans to extend ODIE as they come online, carrying the patterns and operator knowledge captured at Muskrat to each new site. As demand for distributed power keeps climbing, MNVR's aim is straightforward: your best operator's judgment on every microgrid, every shift.
ODIE is available now to microgrid owners, operators and service providers. To learn more or request a demo, visit www.mnvrai.ai/odie.
