Major General Edwards retired from the United States Air Force after a 30-year career, concluding his service as Director for Global Power Programs overseeing the multi-billion dollar warfighting acquisition portfolio. Prior assignments included serving as Director for Strategic Capabilities Policy on the National Security Council at the White House, direction of a Pentagon agency’s Nuclear Enterprise organization, and leadership of the Secretary of the Air Force’s Executive Team. He also established and guided the Joint Staff’s Defense Innovation Group to accelerate joint concepts. A combat-proven and decorated aviator, General Edwards flew operational missions in Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region, and commanded the 28th Bomb Wing at Ellsworth Air Force Base, leading the wing to the Air Force’s top bomb wing award and helping position Ellsworth as the first base for the new B-21 Raider.

“General Edwards brings a rare combination of national security policy expertise and large-scale acquisitions leadership,” said Academy’s Chairman and CEO Chance Mims. “His experience shaping strategic policy at the highest levels of government will be a tremendous asset to our clients.”

General Edwards commented on joining the firm: “I am honored to serve Academy’s clients with a unique and experienced perspective of national security and strategic policy across the changing global landscape.”

General Edwards holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Hawaii and master’s degrees from The George Washington University, Air Command and Staff College, and the School for Advanced Air and Space Studies. He was also a visiting national defense fellow at the Stimson Center. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Navy Federal Credit Union.

“General Edwards’ record as a decorated combat aviator and wing commander adds a distinct operational perspective to our Advisory Board,” said Academy’s Vice Chairman Phil McConkey.
