Hunt Military Communities, partnering with the Ameren Illinois Energy Efficiency Program, has successfully completed a comprehensive energy efficiency initiative at Scott Air Force Base. The project delivers significant sustainability improvements, cost savings, and enhanced quality of life for military families.
Comprehensive Home and Community Upgrades
The initiative transformed 1,595 military family homes with smart thermostats, outlet and switch gaskets, efficient water aerators, LED lighting, and advanced power strips. Community-wide improvements include 1,000 10-foot pathway lampposts, upgraded lighting and HVAC controls in community buildings, and enhanced pool lighting systems.
Expansion Through 2025
Current projects continuing this year include:
- Attic insulation and air sealing — Phase 1 complete in 37 homes, with Phase 2 beginning June 2025 for 102 additional homes
- LED installation — Over 50,000 LED lightbulbs being installed community-wide
- Air quality enhancement — More than 3,000 PurAirMax air purifiers with four-speed settings delivered to residents
Measurable Impact for Military Families
The energy efficiency upgrades have generated substantial benefits:
- 2 million kWh saved in the first year
- $300,000 in utility savings redirected to neighborhood maintenance and improvements
- $90,000 worth of materials and labor provided at no cost through the Ameren Illinois partnership
Supporting Mission Readiness
"This initiative demonstrates our commitment to creating energy-efficient, comfortable living environments that support our military families," said Brian Stann, President & CEO of Hunt Military Communities. "Our partnership with Ameren Illinois enables us to invest savings back into the community while advancing environmental stewardship that aligns with DOD sustainability goals."
The Scott Air Force Base project represents Hunt Military Communities' broader strategy to enhance military housing through innovative partnerships and sustainable practices that benefit residents and align with the Department of Defense’s commitment to energy resilience, environmental stewardship, and long-term sustainability of military infrastructure.
