By invitation of JR East, TIS is relocating to TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY, an advanced new city born in central Tokyo, placing students in a living model of sustainability, smart technology, and innovation. The move presents unique opportunities to leverage this facility as a “living classroom” for experiential learning, cultural immersion, and civic engagement: core elements of TIS’ educational model.
World-class amenities
The new campus features innovative infrastructure and purpose-driven design that optimizes every area for student outcomes. The resultant learning ecosystem aligns with TIS’s mission to foster a truly international community and to deliver student-centered, meaningful, holistic, and inclusive education.
Facilities feature learning spaces for deep inquiry and specialization, fitness amenities, museums, and lush green open spaces are also provided: a priority for TIS despite space being at a premium in downtown Tokyo. The campus will include cutting-edge science labs; studios for design & technology and art; a music room; a black box room for theatre studies; a library; language learning rooms; a gymnasium; an outdoor play area; and common spaces.
TIS is also exploring partnerships with other TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY partners for amenities, such as a swimming pool, a fitness gym, and spaces for performing arts and exhibitions.
Strategically positioned
Located in the heart of downtown Tokyo, the new campus provides unrivaled connectivity for students travelling from Tokyo and other parts of the region. TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY is directly connected to TAKANAWA GATEWAY Station, offering excellent access to central Tokyo terminals. It connects to the JR Yamanote Line, which circles Tokyo, and the Keihin-Tohoku Line, linking Yokohama and Saitama. It also connects to Sengakuji Station, providing excellent access to Tokyo’s subway network, and offers easy access to Haneda Airport.
With proximity to major corporations, pioneering technology firms, domestic and international startups, and leading brands in business, retail, and hospitality, TIS also aims to establish new partnerships to create unprecedented opportunities for students.
“Tokyo International School’s mission is to foster meaningful learning and holistic well-being within a truly international community. By establishing our new campus at TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY, we provide an ideal urban canvas befitting our mission,” said Daniel Reynolds, head of TIS.
