According to the report, organizations are entering 2026 with rising exposure across digital, physical, and geopolitical fronts. Cyber threats, climate-related disruptions, supply-chain instability, and information threats increasingly overlap, widening the “expanding risk zone” that global enterprises must navigate.
“Disruptions today move fast and often trigger secondary impacts,” said Dave Wagner, CEO of Everbridge. “Resilience is now an enterprise-wide discipline. Organizations that build the muscle to anticipate and adapt will be in the strongest position for 2026. Leaders need clearer visibility and stronger cross-functional coordination to stay ahead.”
Top global risks expected to shape 2026
The report highlights ten of the most pressing global risks expected to shape 2026, including cyberattacks, the dual edge of AI, climate-driven extremes, geopolitical instability, and growing physical and digital supply-chain shocks. These risks reflect the increasing interconnectedness of threats across industries and regions.
Persistent gaps in readiness
Survey findings underscore the urgency of modernizing resilience programs:
- 50% of organizations lack a formal critical event management strategy
- 24% never test their continuity plans
- Only 31% feel extremely confident in their ability to manage critical events
- 61% report no investment in advanced technologies such as AI
A practical framework for future-ready resilience
To help organizations strengthen readiness for 2026, the report outlines a five-stage approach to operational resilience: Plan, Monitor, Alert, Respond, and Improve. The framework provides a structured way for teams to anticipate threats earlier, coordinate more effectively, and accelerate recovery.
