Kilowatts for a Cause: Reliant Announces Choose to Give Program

Simply by choosing a new electricity plan, Reliant customers can support a charitable organization that matters to them —

Reliant is doubling down on its commitment to making power personal for Texans and supporting local communities with the new Choose to Give program. When customers enroll in a Choose to Give plan, Reliant will make a $100 contribution up front to their chosen nonprofit. In addition, Reliant will donate an amount equal to 5 percent of the customer’s annual energy charges, making an even bigger difference for the nonprofit’s mission.

“Reliant cares deeply about the people and communities we serve, and for more than a decade, we’ve offered innovative electricity plans that support nonprofits doing inspiring work,” said Elizabeth Killinger, President, Reliant. “The Choose to Give program provides customers an opportunity to connect to their communities in a meaningful and impactful way by doing something as simple as turning on their light switch.”

The program launched with two Choose to Give plans, benefiting the following organizations:

  • The American Heart Association is on a mission to save and improve the lives of those affected by heart disease and stroke, two of the most common causes of death in Texas. When customers sign up for this plan, their energy usage will support lifesaving medical research and resources for heart failure patients to better manage their health.
  • March of Dimes leads the fight for the health of all moms and babies. Its goal is to end preventable maternal and preterm birth health risks, benefiting communities in Texas. When customers enroll in this plan, they will help families with things like essential baby items, newborn screenings, innovative prematurity research and more.

“At March of Dimes, we’re grateful for our longtime partnership with Reliant,” said Jen Torres, Senior Executive Director, March of Dimes. “Their support has allowed us to advance health equity and ensure that every mom and baby is healthy regardless of their race, wealth or geography.”

Reliant has an established relationship with these two organizations, giving more than $2 million previously through legacy programs.

"With Reliant's longstanding support, the American Heart Association in Houston has been able to expand its mission of saving lives from heart disease and stroke,” said Heather Butscher, VP of Health Strategies for Greater Houston, American Heart Association. “We are thrilled and honored to be a part of this new Choose to Give plan."

Reliant has plans to expand the list of partner organizations benefiting from the Choose to Give program, giving Texans more opportunities to make a difference by supporting a nonprofit they are passionate about. In 2024, customers will have the opportunity to provide recommendations for organizations they would like to see added to the Choose to Give program.

Customers enrolled in the Choose to Give plan of their choice will also enjoy a fixed energy charge for the length of their term and convenient account management tools, including access to Reliant’s industry-leading app. Reliant customers also have access to 24/7 customer service and support, available online, by phone or via the Reliant app.
