UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / February 4, 2025 / Marquis Who's Who honors Shawn Jumper Cole for his dedication to military logistics and training. Mr. Cole is an expert in explosive ordinance disposal (EOD) and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). During his 25 years of service with the U.S. Navy, Mr. Cole witnessed firsthand the dangers of these devices and the power of education to lessen their harm.

Mr. Cole has since dedicated his life as an instructor and curriculum designer, traveling the world to educate others on EOD practices and helping affected communities rebuild.

Mr. Cole's Service in the U.S. Navy

Mr. Cole's career journey began when he served with the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he encountered several EOD technicians. This line of work intrigued him, and he pursued this position.

During his service on the EOD unit, Mr. Cole was deployed on missions to Iraq, where the unit disarmed IEDs left by Iraqi insurgents. This would be some of his proudest work, as it helped Iraqi citizens rebuild infrastructure and return safely to their families. This work also involved constant education and technical awareness, informing Mr. Cole's later pursuits.

Mr. Cole's Early Educational Work

Upon retiring from the Navy, Mr. Cole was offered a job as a senior triage technician with A-T Solutions. His reputation also led him to opportunities with the U.S. State Department, where he applied his knowledge of EOD techniques to educating others worldwide under the Anti-Terrorism Assistance Program. During this time, he visited Ukraine on behalf of the State Department and designed a curriculum to teach EOD practices.

In 2019, Mr. Cole began work with Tetra Tech TMR as a senior instructional designer, a position he currently occupies. While carrying out his duties, he traveled to Ukraine three times to conduct training and analyses. In his commitment to education and passion for curriculum design, Mr. Cole helped establish an international school for explosive ordnance disposal in Ukraine to help with the scourge of unexploded ordnance.

The Global Impact of Mr. Cole's Work

Tetra Tech TMR won a contract for a task order in Iraq through the State Department, allowing Mr. Cole to return to Iraq on a project to help clear the country of legacy IEDs. Throughout this project, he led 80 international EOD technicians and over 300 Iraqis to clear unexploded ordnance and improvised explosive devices throughout Iraq.

Upon his return to the U.S., Mr. Cole was assigned the subject matter expert U.S. State Department Worldwide Destruction Support Services (WDSS). Working with the United Nations, he helped rewrite all the competencies and publications for improvised explosive device removal and conventional weapons destruction, International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) and Training and Evaluation Protocol (TEP). Mr. Cole still serves in this position, training people through all the various levels of explosives disarmament.

Mr. Cole's Commitment to Leadership and Education

Beyond his curriculum design, Mr. Cole has contributed to the spread of knowledge in his field by co-authoring educational works. He has co-authored "Determining the Value of UAVs in Iraq," published by the Journal of Conventional Weapons Destruction in 2018 and "Ultimate EOD Electronics Reference Guide," published in 2022.

For others who would also like to lead impactful projects, Mr. Cole advises taking a leadership style that practices humility and mutual respect, as he has.

"In my opinion, the best leaders are the ones who basically think they don't know everything and they treat everyone with respect," states Mr. Cole. "They listen to what everybody else has to say and they take the best idea."

Today, Mr. Cole remains committed to his leadership and educator duties. Although he may lessen his workload in the coming years, he desires to continue his services that help others. As his education and practices reach many worldwide and enable communities to rebuild their homes and lead fuller lives, Mr. Cole builds upon a legacy of excellence, diligence and service to others.
