Authority on DOT exams co-develops and launches Simple Physical software to streamline physical exams and paperwork and assist providers in making accurate determinations.

For over a decade, TeamCME has been a leading resource for information about DOT physicals as well as training for medical examiners. Because changes occur regularly, many providers struggle to stay abreast of the most recent changes to FMCSA or DOT rules and regulations regarding driver physicals. New software co-developed by TeamCME seeks to streamline DOT physicals and help examiners make proper determinations for drivers. Simple Physical integrates driver intake forms and physician observations and offers insight based on FMCSA driver requirements.
Since its founding in 2010, TeamCME has become a go-to resource for information about DOT physicals, medical examiner training, as well as drug and alcohol testing. Connecting commercial drivers with certified medical examiners is just one way the company helps drivers navigate the scheduling and paperwork accompanying these bi-annual physicals while keeping up with a demanding driving schedule. Certified medical examiners adopting their new Simple Physical software will further streamline the process, ensuring exams and documentation are completed correctly and quickly.
“At TeamCME, we prioritize providing drivers and medical examiners with that latest information,” stated Dr. Jeffrey Carlson, Co-CEO and Chief Medical Officer. “We recognize that all that information can be overwhelming for providers and drivers, especially when it changes as often as it does. We are excited to introduce providers nationwide to Simple Physical. This software evaluates the patient’s health history and examiner’s observations with regard to the FMCSA guidelines and provides recommendations for follow-up, further evaluation, or disqualification.”
Examiners designed Simple Physical for examiners. The software is the first specifically designed to allow certified medical examiners to easily and accurately complete DOT physical exam forms on a mobile device as well as a desktop computer. After a driver completes the questionnaire, the provider reviews all “yes” answers, which appear in yellow. The software asks additional questions to gather necessary information about conditions or symptoms. Throughout the exam, alerts prompt the examiner to revisit incomplete sections, order testing, or refer the driver to a specialist. It will also make a recommendation for driver certification or disqualification.
“One of the key functions of Simple Physical is that it improves accuracy by providing guidance throughout the physical,” said Dr. Carlson. “The software identifies unanswered questions, calls out red flags, and gives certification guidance. Once all the i’s are dotted and t’s crossed, providers can electronically submit exams to the national registry quickly and easily. It is a simple yet powerful new tool for medical examiners.”
