Marquis Who's Who Honors Kariappa Appachu, MD, for Expertise in Health Care

UNIONDALE, NY / ACCESS Newswire / December 9, 2025 / Marquis Who's Who honors Kariappa Appachu, MD, for his expertise in health care as a physician specializing in nephrology. Recognized as a Top Doctor, he has served the Casa Grande, Arizona, community for more than a decade. His decision to remain in this small retirement community reflects his dedication to providing medical care for patients who often face limited access to specialists.

Care for Undeserved Patients

Dr. Appachu first arrived in Casa Grande on a visa waiver program. He expected to serve for three years before moving to a larger city. Instead, he chose to stay. Many of his patients are veterans, retirees and individuals from low socioeconomic backgrounds. "I love the population here because they are the most in need of health care," he says.

Additionally, Native American reservations surround Casa Grande, and some of these residents have limited access to medical services. Patients often must travel up to 80 miles to Phoenix or Tucson for care. However, this Arizona town has benefited from Dr. Appachu's choice to remain in the area.

Nephrology Education and Training

Dr. Appachu has managed a growing practice, and also sees patients at two dialysis units. The facility offers hemodialysis and home dialysis programs. In addition to his clinical practice, he served as chair of medicine at Banner Casa Grande Hospital. Other endeavors include serving as an assistant professor at the Creighton University School of Medicine and as a teaching faculty member at Chandler Regional Medical Center. These roles enable him to educate future physicians while serving patients who depend on nephrology care.

In 2007, Dr. Appachu earned a Doctor of Medicine from Kasturba Medical College in Mangalore, India. Five years later, he finished a residency in internal medicine at the Creighton University School of Medicine Phoenix Program and completed a fellowship in nephrology at the University of Southern California for the following two years. Furthermore, he holds board certifications in internal medicine and nephrology from the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a fellow of the American Society of Nephrology.

Innovations in Kidney Treatment

In his specialty, Dr. Appachu follows ongoing developments aimed at reducing patient dependence on dialysis. "Dialysis can keep you alive for a good seven, eight, 10 years, but then your quality of life is still not going to be very good," he says. Additionally, Arizona residents could spend up to six years on the transplant wait list.

However, current research into genetically modified pig kidneys and implantable artificial kidney devices offers hope. "I think those would be the two things we look forward to in the future. In that way, we don't have to rely on dialysis, or patients don't need to wait on a lifelong wait to get a kidney," Dr. Appachu says.

Beyond his clinical and academic work, Dr. Appachu is active in health policy and is involved with the Arizona Medical Association, where he serves on legislative and membership committees. Through this work, he contributes to discussions and initiatives that address medical practice standards and patient care across the state.

Community and Personal Interests

Dr. Appachu's contributions also extend into community and charitable engagements. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, playing golf and exploring global cuisines. He is also a co-investor of Indy Bar, a local restaurant that earned recognition among the Valley's best 25 in Indian cuisine.

Looking ahead, Dr. Appachu wants to explore the possibility of establishing a new dialysis clinic in Casa Grande, which would provide expanded capacity for patients, including those requiring home dialysis services. He aims to make high-quality kidney care more accessible for a growing patient population. "I'm a people person rather than a leader," he says. "I just want to be there for people and guide them when they need me."
